Wise card not working at Thai ATMs? What changed in 2026 and how to get cash

Updated: 27 October 2026

Short answer: it depends on where your Wise account is registered. As of 25 October 2026, Wise says personal accounts with a Thai registered address can no longer withdraw cash at Thai ATMs with the Wise card: the restriction applies by September 2026 to accounts opened after 21 January 2026 and from December 2026 to older ones, and existing Thai-account cards will be cancelled by January 2027. A Wise card issued in the UK, EU, US or Australia is not part of these changes and withdraws as an international card: you pay the Thai ATM fee (250 THB for Visa, 350 THB for Mastercard at the big banks) plus Wise's fee above your free monthly allowance. If your card no longer works, the options are foreign cash at a money changer, a card from another country, a Thai account, or, if you hold USDT, a cardless ATM code from an exchange service.

Existing cardsCancelled by January 2027 and replaced free of charge; Wise says it will email customers by December 2026

Why blogs quote different dates: Wise has rewritten this page several times. Archived copies show 19 May 2026 (February version), then August and June (May version), then October and August (September version), and now December and September. Every date you have seen was on the page at some point. Check the live page before relying on any of them.

Where is your Wise account registered?

  • Thai address. Plan for no cash from Thai ATMs on the Wise card. Payments in baht still work within the new limits.
  • UK, EU, US or Australia. The Thailand changes do not name you. Wise's ATM help page marks international withdrawals as supported for these cards, so a Thai ATM treats your card like any foreign card.
  • You moved away from Thailand. Wise asks you to update your address to the country where you now live. People moving to Thailand before January 2027 may not be able to change their address while the rollout is under way.
  • Russian residents. Wise does not serve customers in Russia, so these changes are irrelevant; the options are in Russian cards in Thailand.

What a foreign Wise card pays at a Thai ATM

You pay twice: the Thai bank that owns the machine and Wise.

What 100,000 THB in cash costs with a foreign Wise card

Example for an EEA Wise card paying from a euro balance, at the Bank of Russia EUR/THB cross rate on October 27, 2026 (about 37.8 THB per euro, a reference rate): 100,000 THB needs 4 withdrawals at a 30,000 THB machine, so the Thai bank charges 1,000 THB on a Visa card or 1,400 THB on a Mastercard. 100,000 THB is about 2,644 EUR; Wise charges 2.69% on the part above 250 EUR, about 2,436 THB. Total: about 3,436 THB (3.4%) on Visa or 3,836 THB (3.8%) on Mastercard, plus Wise's own fee for converting euros to baht, which the app shows before you confirm.

Withdrawing small amounts is what makes it expensive: 3,000 THB at a time costs 250 THB each time, more than 8% in ATM fees alone. Take larger amounts less often, within your limits. More bank-by-bank detail is in Thailand ATM fees for foreign cards.

How cardless withdrawals work at each Thai bank, including codes you create in your own banking app, is explained in our guide how to get cash in Thailand without a card. To estimate what a USDT amount gives in baht, use the USDT to THB converter.

Who this is not for

If your Wise card is registered abroad and works, an ATM is the cheapest way to get a few thousand baht. An exchange service makes sense when you hold USDT, need a larger sum (from about 500 USDT) or have no working card. For reference, 1,000 USDT ≈ 33,790 THB at the official Bank of Russia USD/THB cross rate on October 27, 2026 (a mid-market reference, not our quote). The OneEx rate is quoted in the Telegram bot for your amount, with fees included, and fixed before you send anything.

FAQ

Can I use my Wise card at ATMs in Thailand in 2026?

It depends on the registered address of your Wise account. As of 25 October 2026, Wise says cards linked to personal accounts with a Thai address cannot withdraw cash at Thai ATMs (restrictions by September 2026 for accounts opened after 21 January 2026 and from December 2026 for older ones). Cards issued in the UK, EU, US or Australia are not named in these changes and work as international cards; Wise's ATM help page lists international withdrawals for them.

Why did my Wise card stop working at a Thai ATM?

If your Wise account has a Thai registered address, Wise has restricted cash withdrawals in Thailand and will cancel existing Thai-account cards by January 2027. If your account is registered elsewhere, check your spending limits in the app (Cards, then Your spending limits) and the network on your card, and try another bank's machine: some ATMs reject certain cards.

How much does it cost to use a Wise card at a Thai ATM?

Two separate charges. The Thai bank charges a flat fee per withdrawal: 250 THB for Visa and 350 THB for Mastercard at Kasikorn, Krungsri and SCB in 2026. Wise charges nothing up to your monthly free allowance (250 GBP for UK cards, 250 EUR in the EEA, 250 USD in the US, 400 AUD in Australia) and then 2.69% above it (US: 1.95 USD plus 1.95% per withdrawal).

How much can I withdraw at once from a Thai ATM?

Kasikorn and Krungsri machines pay up to 30,000 THB per transaction and Bangkok Bank ATM+ machines up to 25,000 THB. Your card issuer may set a lower limit, so the real cap is whichever is smaller.

What can I use instead of a Wise card in Thailand?

Foreign cash (US dollars or euros) at a licensed money changer, a card from a non-Thai account (Wise registered abroad, Revolut and others), a Thai bank account if you can open one, or a cardless ATM code from an exchange service if you hold USDT. For small amounts a working foreign card is usually the cheapest.

Hold USDT and need baht in cash? Message the amount to the OneEx Telegram bot: the manager confirms the rate, payout method and final baht amount before you send. Cities: Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai.
